Paul & Sanna Wedding... in Finland

Just back from the wedding of Paul Haigh, me old school chum and the lovely Sanna. Some trip for 3 days, given that the wedding was way in the depths of Finland, not that far from the border with Russia in a place called Kitee. Trees as far as the eyes can see, lakes and that's about it. I travelled to Helsinki very early Friday, so had a relaxed afternoon in the hotel reading and doing some work before John arrived, which in itself was a minor miracle. After shopping for all the things John forgot to pack, we met up with my friend Janne who took us to the highest bar in Helsinki, together with the coldest, before a lovely meal somewhere a bit too posh for 3 dodgy blokes and then onto a nightclub. It was there that we discovered the delights of Fisherman's Friend Vodka! Yes, they actually create bottles of the stuff and it takes just like you would imagine it to taste like. Still, towards the tail end of an evening, you don't argue. After 4 hours sleep, we crawled out of bed and onto the train for a 4 hour journey to Kitee. We stayed in the only hotel in town.... if it wasn't we would have for sure stayed at the other one. Then it was off to see Paul and Sanna tie the not, before heading to the reception deep in the forest (but that means nothing because it is all forest, apart from the wet bits). Mossie spray was a must. The photos ware here. We got back near 3 in the morning (again!). After some sleep, we managed to make it to the station, even though the taxi driver could not understand my lovely drawing of a train(!!!!????). Then it was the long journey home all of Sunday. Meanwhile, Sharon & George had an active weekend at home with Sharon's sister, her fella Rob and his 2 kids. A good time was had by all, from what I hear.
